Plain-English terms for using Folio UK during public beta.
Public beta
Folio UK is in public beta. Features may change, feeds may be added or paused, and availability is not guaranteed. The Data Status page always shows the current state of every publisher feed.
Accuracy of the public record
Folio reproduces records published by UK public bodies and links each record to its source. Where a publisher's own record is incomplete or wrong, Folio will reflect that. Always verify a record against the linked source before relying on it.
No inference, no accusation
Folio surfaces evidence; it does not allege wrongdoing. The presence of a person or company on Folio is not a suggestion of impropriety. Any conclusion drawn from records found on Folio is yours, and you are responsible for how you publish it — including for defamation, contempt, privacy and data protection consequences.
Acceptable use
Use Folio for research, journalism and legitimate due diligence. Do not attempt to bypass access controls, scrape the platform in a way that degrades service for others, use the platform to harass or profile individuals, or use it to make decisions about a person's credit, employment, insurance or tenancy.
Your content
Investigations, notes, watchlists and saved searches you create remain yours. You are responsible for the material you add to your workspace. You grant us only the limited licence needed to store and display that material back to you and anyone you share it with.
Exports, reuse and third-party licences
Exports carry the provenance of each record. Folio does not own the underlying records: reuse is governed by the original publisher's licence — the Open Government Licence v3.0 for Companies House, GOV.UK, procurement and Electoral Commission material, the Open Parliament Licence v3.0 for Parliamentary material, and the publisher's own terms elsewhere. Accounts and suspension
You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or puts the service or its sources at risk.
Liability
Folio is provided on an as-is basis during beta, without warranty of accuracy, completeness or availability. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data or reputation, arising from use of the platform or from decisions taken on the basis of records reproduced from third-party publishers. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform develops. Material changes will be reflected in the date above; continuing to use Folio after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and any dispute arising out of them, whether contractual or not, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
